Founded in 1964, IDG had 2003 revenues of $2.41 billion and has more than 13,000 employees worldwide. IDG started its very first activity in Vietnam since 1992, by bringing the famous publication PC World to Vietnamese readers through providing the content of this publication to the Department of Sciences and Technology of Hochiminh city. The localized version of the PC World has been published and warmly received by Vietnamese readers. In 1996, IDG Asia Representative Office was officially open in Hochiminh city, active in areas of event management and research. Getting a firm grip on development trends of Vietnam, in 2003, IDG established the wholly-owned foreign company in order to capitalize on opportunities and potential of Vietnam market. Active areas of IDG Vietnam have been expanded to: Events ; Research; and Publications. The position of IDG Vietnam has been firmly established as the leading company in these areas in Vietnam.

In addition to doing business in Vietnam, IDG commits to the development of Vietnam through a variety of practical projects in Vietnam, focusing on education, as according to IDG, is vital to the development of any society.

Frequently visited by the Founder and Chairman of IDG - Mr. Patrick J. McGovern, IDG Vietnam has been high on the business agenda of IDG. This year, 2004, witnessed two consecutive trips of Mr. McGovern to Vietnam, one in March and one in July, underlined by meetings with high-ranking officials of Vietnam. With full support from the Government of Vietnam, IDG is very confident in the investments it has been making in Vietnam.

   • Tam Le was appointed as IDG Vietnam’s Managing Director

 

2001 
   • Wireless World Vietnam debuts
   • COMNET Vietnam debuts


2002 
   • Banking Vietnam, in cooperation with State Bank of Vietnam, debuts


2003  
   • IDG Vietnam, a wholly owned subsidiary, is established
   • Vietnam ICTE, an IT Event specializing in Education, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training, debuts   

   • e-Government Symposium debuts
   • Founder and Chairman Patrick J. McGovern received the Certificate of Merit from the People’s Committee of Hochiminh City, for his great contribution to the development of IT in Vietnam
   • IDG signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Science and Technology in the areas of Publications and Investment at its Headquarters in San Francisco, USA, under the witness of Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan and Former US Ambassador Raymond Burghardt

 

2004
   • Founder and Chairman Patrick J. McGovern has a Congratulation Message broadcast nationally on the Eve of Vietnam’s Lunar New Year    • Vietnam ICTF, an IT Event specializing in Finance, debuts, in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance

   • Thoi bao Vi tinh Saigon – COMPUTERWORLD, was launched
   • Founder and Chairman Patrick J. McGovern met with Vietnam Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and General Vo Nguyen Giap, a national hero and usually regarded as George Washington of the independent Vietnam
   • IDG Vietnam Scholarship Program is deployed
   • IDG Vietnam strengthens its community support, including: visit and provide gifts for HIV/AIDS kids in Hochiminh City; provide printers for Cao Bang Province’s Department of Education and Training; help build a primary school in Cao Bang on the occasion of 50th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory over the French Colony
